A strong email database is an essential tool for any business. Email is one of the easist and least expensive ways to market to the cusomers that you have already established. However, sometimes building up a list can be difficult as we are all bombarded with emails and customers might be reluctant to sign up. Here are 3 simple things you can do to help grow your email database.
- Hold a monthly drawing- Keep registration forms next to your register and invite customers to sign up. Be sure to include a blank for their email address. Not every customer will give you their email but at least half of them will. It doesn’t have to be a huge give away. In my experience give aways as low as $25 will work but you don’t want to seem stingy. It should be based your individual store, price points and what you can afford.
- Offer an email coupon to new sign ups- You will have to start by sending an email coupon to all of your existing list. Then each month resend that email to customers who have signed up in that month. Again, the percentage should be based on your individual business and price point. Businesses who sell bigger ticket items can get away with a smaller discount percentage.
- Add a sign-up form to your website and Facebook. Services like Constant Contact will allow you to generate an HTML form that you can use.
If you aren't already using email marketing for your business, you are missing out on one of the most effective ways to reach your customers.
